My 2017 – Looking Back on an Amazing Year

Happy New Year!

I know I’m quite late with this kind of post and my well-wishes, but I’ve been incredibly busy and didn’t really get to blogging. I’m terribly sorry about that! Before I get to the core subject of this post, I’d shortly like to address something related to my blog first:

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to start actively blogging again. I know I’ve promised this a few times before, but I truly want to work on it. Another resolution was to become more organised and regularly blogging is also part of that. I will try my best to stick to posting on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I won’t, however, stick to the categories that I assigned to each day. I’ve noticed that sometimes I have plenty of ideas for one category, but got stuck on ideas for another, which demotivated me and also caused me to blog less. I’ve got quite a few ideas for posts written down, so with this new plan I hope I will be able to stick to my schedule! Okay, now let’s get to the subject of this post 😉

My highlights of 2017

Even though 2017 was a year with ups and downs, a few occasions made me really happy and I’d like to share them with you.

My first and second time in London (May and July) – I’ve been dreaming of visiting this beautiful city ever since I was little, and in 2017 I finally got the chance to do it. The fact that I got to combine it with going to concerts made it even more memorable! I saw The Vamps in May and Jack Maynard in July, and that in the city of my wildest dreams. I’ve visited so many places in the city that I sometimes still have a hard time believing it.

Seeing The Vamps three times (!) (May, June & July) – I had normally planned to see them only two times, and the third time actually came as a surprise. The first time was at the O2 Arena in London, the second time at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp and the third time at the O2 Academy Islington at Jack Maynard’s Milliparty, which was honestly a huge surprise, because they were not announced to perform there. The Vamps have been my favourite band for over four years now and I’ll never get tired of seeing them. They’ve got me through my worst times and I’m forever grateful for that. I’ve been lucky enough to meet them multiple times, just like 2017, where I met them once, for the fourth time.

Meeting Jack Maynard & seeing him live, as well as meeting Alex McDonald, Byron Langley, Will Manning, Roman Kemp & G23 (28th of July) – It took me quite a long time to decide whether to go to London to the Milliparty or not, but I absolutely do not regret a single second that I eventually did it. If I had to pick one night as my favourite of 2017, it would definitely be this one. I not only met Jack, but also Alex (who secretly is my favourite, but shh, don’t tell the others 😉 ), Byron, Will, Roman and George, I was probably part of the littest party of the year, with three talented DJ’s playing a set and three other talented artists who performed. I got to see, unfortunately not meet, a few of my favourite YouTubers, like Oli White, Caspar Lee and Mikey Pearce. I’m still so grateful that I was asked to join by one of my best friends and will never be able to say thank you enough.

Holiday in France with my friends – A week away in France with a few of the people I appreciate the most in my life was really what I needed after a very long period of exams. Sun, a swimming pool and good food, we didn’t need more than that. I’m so incredibly grateful to have these girls in my life and I don’t know what I’d do without them.

Erasmus (September to December, and continuing in 2018) – Even though I’ve had many downs during this experience already, it’s the ups that make me so thankful for getting this chance. I’m happy that I grabbed it with both hands and started the biggest adventure of my life. I got the feeling that it made me more independent, made me realise who I really am and changed me, in a good way (hopefully). I’ve made tons of friends here, a few of them of whom I hope I’ll see them again in the future. Being back home for two weeks over Christmas made me realise how happy I really am here.

Of course there were other wonderful moments in 2017, but to not make this post too long, I simply picked five of them. Most of the time it is also a matter of who you are with and not necessarily where you are at or who you are with. Therefore I would also like to thank all of the people who made my 2017 an amazing year. They know who they are.

See you in my next post!

Lots of love,
